San Diego, March 10, 2016 /PRWeb/ — Sommetrics™, a company focused on providing products and services that improve the quality of sleep, announces the appointment of Paul Edwards as Senior VP of Engineering and Manufacturing. Mr. Edwards joins Sommetrics from SeQual Technologies, where he most recently served as VP of Engineering and was responsible for new product development and engineering for portable lightweight oxygen delivery systems.

“Paul brings much needed skills as Sommetrics starts to bring products to the market,” said Richard Rose, MD, Sommetrics Board Chair and CEO.

World-renowned sleep experts, Professor Mary J. Morrell and Dr. Jerrold Kram, have joined the Sommetrics Medical Advisory Board, a highly accomplished group of physicians from leading institutions who provide input into the Company’s product development and clinical research programs. These new appointments bring additional expertise to augment the Sommetrics medical team as the company prepares to market its recently FDA cleared cNEP® Airway Management System (AMS) device and initiate a clinical pilot study for the company’s Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) System.

Mary Morrell, PhD, a Professor of Sleep and Respiratory Physiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, brings extensive expertise in respiratory medicine, sleep and sleep apnea. She established the Academic Unit of Sleep and Breathing at the Royal Brampton Hospital where her team is exploring how aging impacts sleep apnea, and she has received fellowships and funding from the Wellcome Trust, the British Heart Foundation and the National Institute for Health Research for her work.

Jerry Kram, MD, FCCP, D-ABS, is the Medical Director of the California Center for Sleep Disorders and is one of the most experienced sleep clinicians in the U.S.  He is currently working with the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Academy of Family Practice to develop a sleep medicine curriculum for primary care physicians. He is also on the board of the National Sleep Foundation.

“We are delighted to welcome Prof. Morrell and Dr. Kram to our Advisory Board,” says Rose.  “Their clinical expertise and contributions focused on addressing healthy sleep and sleep education are vitally important as we develop and commercialize Sommetrics’ cNEP technology for sleep apnea and other conditions, and will help position Sommetrics as a leader in healthy sleep.”
